New Jersey emo-punk heroes My Chemical Romance announced Tuesday they will play MetLife Stadium next summer, soon morphing the Meadowlands into a sea of black nail polish and heavy eyeliner.
The Aug. 9 date — part of a summer “Long Live the Black Parade” stadium tour, and by far the Belleville and Kearny-native band’s biggest home-state show ever — makes My Chemical Romance only the third New Jersey band to play New Jersey’s largest venue (after Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi). They also make history as the first Garden State group launched in the 21st Century to play MetLife.
Their fan-worshiped 2006 album “The Black Parade” — which they debuted in a Woodbridge parking lot, outside the Vintage Vinyl record shop — will be performed in its entirety, among other hits. Indie-rock favorites Death Cab for Cutie and fellow Jersey emo stalwarts Thursday will open the show.

My Chemical Romance, best known for its mid-’00s alternative hits “Helena,” “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” and “Welcome to the Black Parade,” played two reunion shows at Newark’s Prudential Center in 2022.
While they released a new single, “The Foundations of Decay,” that same year, they have not announced plans for a new album. Their last album was “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” in 2010. They reformed in 2019 after a six-year hiatus.
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster. The band also plays Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia Aug. 15.
